Questions
Where does the data come from?
City of Los Angeles building permits, which are public records. We check them daily.
How fresh is it?
The city publishes permits a few days after they're issued. Your weekly list covers permits issued in roughly the last two weeks, so you see each one while the job is still current.
Are these people ready to buy?
Not necessarily. A permit tells you a homeowner is investing in their roof right now. That's a strong reason to reach out, not a guarantee of a sale. How you follow up is up to you.
Hasn't the homeowner already decided by the time the permit is issued?
Sometimes. The roof is usually decided before the permit is pulled, and some roofers bundle solar or gutters into the same job. The homeowners who fit you best are the ones whose roofer didn't. We can't tell you which is which; the permit only tells you the roof is happening now.
How should I contact homeowners?
By mail or in person. Permit records include addresses, not phone numbers, and unsolicited calls or texts to homeowners can break federal telemarketing rules. Many installers send a postcard within a week of the permit.
What if my zone is taken?
We'll put you on the waitlist for that zone and offer you a neighboring one.
Can I cancel?
